MAPPING THE METAMORPHIC ISLES

For 'Art Week' in
June 2007 we took inspiration from the ship composed of old furniture
(sideboard doors, wooden chandeliers, etc) that was on display at the
Fabrica art gallery
('Beneath the Stride of Giants' by Brian Griffiths). You can see some of
the Nursery children visiting the gallery
here
The whole school
created stories of the ship's voyage, mapping its journey, and
constructing
islands for it to visit. These islands had inhabitants, creatures and buildings
that were
(like the ship) constructed or evolved from other objects or beings.

Again we have been working with
children from other schools in the Brighton 'Excellence in Cities'
cluster on an ICT project. This time involving games-programming days - using several
different programmes,
but mainly 'Mission Maker' from Immersive Education. Click picture

200 YEARS OF
MIDDLE STREET SCHOOL

This year we have been working
on a project with Brighton Museum to fill a cabinet with artefacts
and models to celebrate '200 Years of Middle Street school'. Click the picture

We have also been working with

Clubs have continued on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the year with 45 children attending.
BOXES

SUMMER CABINETS & PODS DAYS

Here are some pictures (some curious) from this event -
Activities included using the QX-3
computer microscope, building Lego Mindstorms robots, 'Robot-Wars'-style
battling with remote
control cars, digital photography and looking at some of
the new software we will be using next term. Mr Olden brought along
fossils,
skulls, insects and spiders from the Booth Museum - which children examined and
then drew and used as inspiration for
making models. We also built some giant
geometric shapes and the 'Animal Club' finally managed to make a video of their
play.

Autumn Term 2000 - 'Cabinets & Pods' meetings every week on Mondays and Tuesdays after school.

June 2000 - photo of our first cabinet - featured
in Brighton & Hove News.
February 2000 - We have purchased 2 cabinets in advance of receiving our grant. These are a large 'merchant's cabinet' for Years 5 & 6 and a smaller triangular cabinet for the Nursery.
