MAPPING THE METAMORPHIC ISLES

For 'Art Week' in June 2007 we took inspiration from the ship composed of old furniture
(sideboard doors, wooden chandeliers, etc) that was on display at the Fabrica art gallery
('Beneath the Stride of Giants' by Brian Griffiths). You can see some of the Nursery children visiting the gallery here

The whole school created stories of the ship's voyage, mapping its journey, and constructing
islands for it to visit. These islands had inhabitants, creatures and buildings that were
(like the ship) constructed  or evolved from other objects or beings.
See the giant exhibition in our school hall here

We looked at all sorts of maps of voyages and real and imaginary lands - click the pictures

control cars, digital photography and looking at some of the new software we will be using next term. Mr Olden brought along
fossils, skulls, insects and spiders from the Booth Museum - which children examined and then drew and used as inspiration for
making models. We also built some giant geometric shapes and the 'Animal Club' finally managed to make a video of their play.
